I find it interesting how, as a society, we separate mind and body. There is some disconnected dichotomy between how we think and how we feel compared to how our body processes and feels.
The rushing and exhaustion of living takes such a toll on our physical bodies, but we don’t even realize it. For years, I’ve tried to persuade my husband to join me in my morning and evening routines.
Slowly waking up, moving about our home in
sweet and tender silence for the first hour.
Listening to the sounds of our dwelling while savoring the sips of a latte.
These moments have been my old testament manna over the last three years while answering emergency nine-one-one calls – a simple request and harsh demand of my body and soul. The adrenaline and trauma would come soon enough, but those precious moments were holy, are holy.
K.J. was the first to lead me to honor and respect God’s creation in my physical body. Years of reading her soft blessings, the words sunk into my soul, leaving me aching for reprieve. Time continued to pass and I drifted towards other writers, authors, and poets who were actively seeking out intentionality in direct competition with the fast-paced life of tv shows, movies, and those around me. My soul pushed for peace and rest, my mind desired speed and stimulation.
For my own life, I’ve slowly stepped into a more cautious and gentle lifestyle. I can’t keep up with the Jones’ anymore.
My choice is to live at the pace my soul, mind, body, and heart need.
Her latest book, #BookOfCommonCourage is a series of poems, prayers, blessings, and pictures all lovingly organized by the author herself. I’ve found such solace in K.J. and her courageous honesty, sharing her own cries for the Lord as well as her own joys in His humanity.
